AntVR is once again in the headlines with their newest creation. However, AntVR, company based in Beijing, is best-known for their creation 2014 VR headset Kickstarter. Hence they are all geared to showcase their newest augmented Mix AR headset.

Mix AR headset for original VR headsets games

With the use of the SteamVR platform, AntVR had made this headset suitable for original VR headsets games. But surely the game needs to have a dark or a totally black background. Tagged with $500 starting price, the headset posses 96-degree FOV (field of view). But certainly, users will miss positional tracking.

Talking about the features of Mix, the headset will show up 1200 x 1200 displays of two units. It also features with 90Hz refresh rate. However, the overall amalgamation boasts the 96-degree FOV. Moreover, the headset comes with optional accessories that get connects via two USB ports of the headsets. Hence counting on, the accessories include a hand-tracking module, eye tracking, and inside-out tracking modules. However, with a funding goal of $50,000, AntVR is thinking of shipping to its potential supporters till December 2018.

As per AntVR, Mix AR headset possesses 96-degree FOV as per its “dual-channel mixed optics”. However, the multi-layered optic will have two disparate optical channels. Hence it will assist in enhancing the light of the display and making the ambient light to pass the lens.

However, AntVR divulged a video that showcased the headset while working. Hence an iPhone X with its lenses employed for capturing the video. It showed off the look of the VR game when used wearing the Mix. Though still, we are not the lucky ones who had a hand on the Mix. But certainly, it’s going to be great if the video comes to reality. However, users can have more VR imagery clarity which could provide the noticeable effect.

AntVR first appeared in the year May 2014 with their first Kickstarter. Since then, they have crossed a long way. Hence, their Kickstarter stockpile more than $260,000 which stood as a competitor to Oculus Rift DK2 at that time. But the first headset launch of AntVR faced pretty turbulence. Since the company promised many but delivery was rather slow.

Since then the company had surfaced with many of their VR devices. Some to count on are the AntVR Cyclops, the room-scale VR headset, and little movable Cardboard viewers. Hence one of the viewers stands as the result of the partnership with Lenovo. However, there might be a few headsets that managed their landing on Western shores. Thus Mix stood in high demand in the western market.

However, Mix AR headset powered with SteamVR games and supports more than 130 games. But still, doubts remain as to how Mix can prove itself without positional tracking and one 3DOF controller. However, if you don’t possess any VR equipment, then you certainly need to purchase one. It might cost you $850 MSRP ($630) outside-in tracking kit. Hence it will provide an external sensor, 6DOF headset module and 6DOF controllers of two units. With that hopefully, it can provide the basic functionality as assured in the released video. However, what it might be, it is hard to wait till the headset gets live.
